Frequently Asked Questions

Where in Arizona are you located?
This is probably our most common question! We are actually located in St. Augustine, Florida. The company was founded in Arizona, and Arizona Custom Knives had built up a good reputation and internet presence by the time it was purchased in 2002. The geographic location changed but the name and fine custom knives offered stayed the same!

How does consignment work?
Contact us via phone or email with information about the knives that you want to sell. If your knives would be a good fit for our site, we will have you ship them to us to get things started. We handle all the pictures and write-ups, and will ensure that you get a fair price. Once the knife is sold, you will receive 75% of the final sale price of the knife.
Refer to our Consignment Policies page for all the details.
How does layaway work?
Some products on our site are eligible for layaway. These will be marked with a star in our listings and will show "Layaway Available: Yes" on the product page.
If your order is eligible for layaway, you just need to click the "Layaway Order" checkbox on the checkout screen before hitting continue. You will then be able to review the amount due for your layaway payment before finalizing the order.
Our layaway plan allows you to pay for your order over a period of 60 days. One third of your order total is paid when your order is placed, the second third in 30 days, and the final third in 60 days. Your order is shipped when the final payment is made at the end of the 60 days.
If your initial payment is made by credit card, we will automatically process the 2nd and 3rd payments at the appropriate time using the same credit card information. If you need to change this for any reason, please contact us.
If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period.
You may have as many items as you want on layaway, as long as you can pay for them!
Please refer to our Policies page for more information.
Can I pay by check or money order? Can I be sure the knife I want will still be there when my payment arrives?
When paying by check or money order, you can place an order online just as you would with a credit card order. On the checkout screen where you select your payment method there will be a "Check / Money Order" option that you can select. Your check or money order should be made out to Arizona Custom Knives.
Once the order is finalized, any products you order will be held and unavailable for anyone else to purchase for ten days. Once we receive your payment in the mail, we will ship your order.
How do I know if a knife is in stock?
All knives listed as "In Stock" are in stock and ready to ship! It's that simple!
What does Sale Pending mean? Is this knife still available?
When an order is placed for a knife, it is immediately moved to Sale Pending status. It will remain listed as Sale Pending for ten days, at which point it will be considered sold. We continue to display these knives along with our in-stock inventory because there are times when the buyer cannot pay or for other reasons the transaction is canceled, and we want to keep the knife displayed with our stock items until the sale is finalized.
We feel that it is also our responsibility as a dealer to properly represent the work of each knifemaker. With this system, even if a knife sells immediately after being posted, it will still be prominently displayed for ten days. We want to make sure those "hot" knives get the attention they deserve.
If a knife marked Sale Pending becomes available we immediately change the listing to In Stock. If you are signed up for email notifications for the maker of that knife, you will be notified that it is now available.
I see something on your site that I really want, can you hold it for me?
Our policy regarding sales is first come, first served. The only way to ensure that a knife is yours is to complete an online order for that knife before anyone else does. Our online ordering system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Requests to hold knives via email or phone messages cannot be guaranteed. We make every effort to respond to calls and email in a timely manner, but recommend that you take advantage of our online ordering system whenever possible.
Can you notify me if you get more knives by my favorite artist?
Sure! Just go to the page of the artist you are interested in. You can click the "Knives by Artist" button on the left to see a full list. The list of artists that have knives currently on our site is first, followed by the complete list of artists.
Once on the artist's page, you can click the "Add to Favorites" link at the bottom of the screen. The site will prompt you to log in (or create an account) if you aren't logged in. That's it!
When we add a knife to the site from an artist on your favorites list, you'll receive automatic email notification! You can add as many artists to your favorites list as you want.
You can review your list of favorites at any time by clicking the "My Account" button at the top of the screen. You can remove favorites from your list here as well.
Can you tell me more about my knife/collection or how much it is worth?
Appraisals can be very time consuming and we do not currently offer an appraisal service. We also believe that appraisals over the phone or email are often inaccurate. Even when a knife owner has good intentions, it is easy to misrepresent condition, value, and other facts about a knife.
Due to these factors, we cannot answer questions about knives that you may have in your collection, nor can we estimate their value. If you are interested in selling your knives, please visit our Consignment Policies page for more information.
