This is a beautiful chisel made by Tom Mayo. I spoke to Tom about this item and he tells me he only made two of these, one straight and one curved. This style chisel is used to trim the tops of dowels flush in woodworking This is the curved one. Although the blade is not marked, he indicated it was either 440 or ATS-34 steel. The handle is made of wood (may be koa) with a gorgeous five-piece spacer of red/brass/red/ivory/black against a polished bolster. Blade is 3/16" thick with a depth of 1". Piece is new from maker.
