Overview
James is a master of the San Mai damascus technique in which damascus tiles are created through a process employing high carbon steel, nickel and mild steel which are laminated over a 1084 core. The result is a blade with a good, long lasting edge and extremely detailed patterns. Impeccable mastodon ivory bark scales secured with sterling silver rivet caps and inlaid with black star diopsides. Tapered tang. 3/16 inch spine thickness and a 1 3/16 inch blade depth. Excellent work by James. Blade Steel: San Mai Damascus
ABOUT THE MAKER
Luman, James R.
I made my first knife around 1985 while studying under Bob Terzuola. From that time on I have continued to perfect the skills I had learned while also developing new techniques.I have had a great deal of training in hand-to-hand combat as well as wilderness survival skills, and accordingly most of my knives are hunting or combat/tactical knives. Since I design my knives to be used, I use ATS34, 440C and my own Damascus, each of which performs extremely well in the field. Each of my fixed blade knives has a full tang, making them very durable. I design my knives to be both extremely functional and to feel good in your hand."
