Running Man Forge
My name is Justin Miller and I have been a bladesmith since I was 13. Everyone asks how I got into this trade. Well that answer always stumps me. It’s hard to explain that it has just always been a part of my life in some way. Back in elementary school the only thing I would draw was swords or unrealistic knives. It all grew from there on. There was no defining moment where I can say it all started. I guess you can say to me bladesmithing feels like it’s in my blood. A lost tie to a past ancestor maybe that gave me this passion. I am not sure. Hence why that’s a hard question to answer. However I have built this passion into a business of functional art. I want to share my craft with the world. My goal is to make this shop into a company that can bring these unique knives to the common person on a large scale. I want to take the production feel out of a product so that I can make each knife feel like it has a soul. I also want to make it available at a affordable price. You can't beat handmade stuff when it comes to quality. We take pride that our product is not something that was made by a machine. Your very own piece of functional art. Runningman forge’s shop is located in Vacaville, California, and we make high end cutlery and outdoor knives. Everything is done in house when producing our blades. From shaping to heat treatment to polishing. Runningman forge is all about hand making and customizing. We want to make every one of our knives unique. We make any style, shape, or look that you desire. Runningman forge is different in that respect. That we make what you want so that you don’t have to constantly look around to find what you’re looking for. We can produce anything from hunting/outdoor, to Japanese kitchen knives and everything in between. No cookie cutter here. Runningman Forge is always finding new ways to improve our product. We are in a never ending battle for perfection, which can never be achieved. A honest bladesmith will tell you that, "If you think you made something perfect, then you have no idea what your are talking about." Managing quality at Runningman Forge is the top priority. Tests are run with every batch of steel to make sure the final product will work as expected. These tests include edge retention, grain structure, and strength. Hardness is tested on every knife after the heat treating process. Then it is posted with every knife for sale. Each knife is sharpened and honed. Then is tested with a paper push test. This test ensures that the micro serrations on the edge are in alignment. There is nothing more dangerous then a dull knife.
