Overview
Murray actually calls these "Muteki" Brand Outdoor Knives a "4 Inch Fishing Knife", however, we are sure that they offer a lot more versatility and are up to a variety of tasks. The blade is Hitachi high carbon (1.4% C) steel laminated between SUS410 stainless steel. Hardened to HRC 63-64. Black "hammer finish" surface with a polished blade grind. The index finger notch and contoured handle shape offer versatility and comfort in gripping. 1/8 inch spine thickness and 7/8 inch blade depth. Full tang. The cocobolo scales on these knives are lighter than often associated with cocobolo, but will turn darker over time. Blade Steel: See Description
ABOUT THE MAKER
Carter, Murray
Visit this maker's website: Carter Cutlery. Murray Carter is a 17th generation Yoshimoto bladesmith and certified Master Bladesmith. Growing up in Eastern Canada, Murray enjoyed outdoor activities which gave him plenty of chances to use a diversity of blades. His disappointment with the blades he was exposed to gave him the desire to make something better. Shortly after graduating from high school, he traveled to Japan where his interest in blades led him to a Japanese bladesmith's shop. In no time at all, Murray was engaged in an apprenticeship under the tutelage of a 16th generation Yoshimoto bladesmith. Upon completing his apprenticeship, he was asked to take the position of number seventeen in the Sakemoto family tradition of Yoshimoto Bladesmithing. After eighteen years of bladesmithing in Japan, Murray and his family moved to Vernonia, Oregon where he currently resides.
