ABOUT THE MAKER
Biggers, Gary
Gary began making knives in order to add some unique pieces to his small collection of handmade knives. He sold his first knife, a small, simple caping knife of 1095 and a wood handle, in April 1996. Just over 8 years later he has made over 500 knives, crediting makers such as D'Holder, Bill Herndon, Ralph Freer, Bob Dozier, the late Bob Engnath and many others with helping him learn the trade.Gary's knives are typically classic style sheath knives modified to his liking, often with flowing curves and using a wide variety of materials. He prefers natural handle materials such as stag, sheep horn, buffalo horn, mammoth ivory, Oosic and various woods. His blades are usually ATS-34 or 154 CM, hardened to Rc 59-60. Occasionally he will make a blade of carbon steel or commercially available Damascus (typically Devin Thomas). His favorite knife to make is the one he is currently working on, whatever that may be.Gary has been married to his wife Becky for 25 years and has 3 children, Eric, Stacey and Lisa. Gary is a licensed professional mechanical engineer and has worked for the U.S. Navy for the past 25 years.
