Overview

This Model 2P by Paul Poehlmann features his patented Axial Locking Mechanism. This rare custom knife features a hand rubbed satin finish blade and frame. Nice function. Minor scuffs and scratches are visible; overall the knife is in good condition. Comes with leather slip sheath. Note from the consigner: "I purchased it in 1997, it has been my safe since then. I purchased it from Steve Alexander who owned Ramrod Gun and Knife in New Castle,In. Steve was instrumental in developing the “art knife” market, giving such notables as Imel and Cronk who were from this area their start. I do not know how the relationship developed between Paul and Steve, but I do recall that Paul relied on Steve’s marketing skills and was a guest at his home in British Columbia on several occasions. Hence, when Paul wanted to divest himself of some of his more notable pieces, Steve was his man. Please notice there is not a serial number on this knife, it is not a production item."

About the Maker

Poehlmann, Paul

Paul’s interest in things mechanical led to a fascination with firearms and knives. He became intrigued with the mechanical aspects of their design and function. In the early 1970’s Paul started to design folding knife mechanisms as he became convinced there had to be a better way to lock a folding knife blade open and closed than what he had seen. Paul holds over forty utility patents and numerous design patents. Twenty of these patents are for folding knife mechanisms. He gained notoriety for inventing the Axial Locking Mechanism, which was then made famous by the Gerber knife company.
