Overview

The Protech Knives SBR (Short Bladed Rockeye) is a utilitarian, compact, every-day-carry version of the Les George iconic Rockeye model, retaining the classic design in a smaller package. The SBR has the same American innovations as the Rockeye, featuring modern materials, high tech manufacturing, advanced coil spring mechanism, and quality American production. This version of the SBR has a two-tone, stonewashed/satin finished S35VN stainless plain edge blade, Blue Anodized aluminum handles and satin hardware. Brand new, direct from Protech Knives, Made in the USA. Blade: The SBR comes with a more EDC friendly, +2.5" blade made of American CPM-S35VN stainless steel. There is plenty of cutting edge for utility work while still retaining the classic full-bellied lines. A nearly half-length swedge makes for an exceptionally fine point that gives this slicer some piercing power. The blade has a stonewashed finish on the grinds that lends a rugged look and also hides wear well while the satin finished flats employ a classy feel. The blade deploys via a button operated coil spring mechanism that is fast and smooth giving you quick access when the seconds count. The George logo is proudly engraved on the back. Handle: A just-right scoop-shaped handle made of smooth Blue 6061-T6 Hard Anodized aluminum provides a comfortable in-hand feel in a variety of grips and deploys swiftly from the pocket for use. This is a highly utilitarian folder that is made for use. The button lock mechanism provides reliable lockup and smooth operation. The button along with all other hardware has a complimentary satin finish. Carries via a tip-up, right-hand, deep carry stainless steel pocket clip with polished finish. CPM S35VN: was designed to offer improved toughness over CPM S30V. It is also easier to machine and polish than CPM S30V. The inclusion of Niobium allows for the formation of niobium carbides along with vanadium and chromium carbides. Substituting niobium carbides for some vanadium carbides makes CPM S35VN about 15-20% tougher than CPM S30V without any loss of wear resistance. CPM S35VN’s improved toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. Comes with original box and papers. PR3 #36. Excellent condition.

About the Maker

George, Les
George, Les

I began making knives in 1992 and have been fortunate enough to have worked with and learned from some of the best knife makers in the world. The maker most responsible for my progression is Stan Fujisaka of Kaneohe, Hawaii. I had been making knives for several years before I met Stan, but he opened the door to a new level of knife making for me and shared his considerable knowledge with me freely. I will continue to refine my craft and to build on all that I have learned so far. I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1997 and spent over 10 years in its service. I served as a heavy equipment mechanic, an Embassy Guard in foreign lands and a Senior Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician in many of the world's garden spots. I have trained in Explosive Dynamic Entry, Advanced Access and Disablement, Improvised Explosives and Devices, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Close Quarters Combat and many other technical and tactical skills. I have deployed to, lived and worked in Laos, Thailand, North and South Korea, Peru, Mozambique, South Africa, Iraq and many other places in between. Since my departure from the Marines I have worked as an Unexploded Ordnance Technician clearing unexploded munitions, from projectiles to land mines from old training areas. As an EOD Team leader in Iraq, I oversaw over 300 EOD responses and over 100 Improvised Explosive Devices where rendered safe. All of these experiences have given me a unique view of how I think knives and tools should be designed, made and used. I look forward to many new things during this new phase in my career. There is a lot of work left for me to do to get ready for more work to come.
