Renner Knives
Hand-forged new knives and rehabilitated old ones. I got into custom knife making by restoring/repairing old knives, usually folders from the 1930s-1970s. It was a good hobby, and provided a nice distraction from my real job, which is as a graphic designer, and paid for itself. I still do some knife rehab work--I have a few available here in my store. But making knives is more fun than fixing them, so I've changed my focus somewhat. All of my knives are made by me--no pre-cut blanks or kits--using high-carbon steel, normally 5160, 1080, 1095, or 15N20. My forge is coal-fired and handmade, my power hammer is my arm (or sometimes my teenaged son's). I have a special line of knives, called the "Recycled Series." These are made from scrap steel (usually spring steel or 1095) and recycled HDPE plastic from discarded containers. I reform the plastic myself, striving to create interesting patterns and color combinations. These handles are very light and should prove to be quite durable. My shop's in-stock inventory varies, so if you don't see model you like, please contact me to discuss a custom project.
