Province
Al Mar was the knifemaker’s knifemaker. A U.S.-born son of Chinese immigrants, he served in Special Forces during Vietnam, then earned a master’s degree in industrial design from the Art Center College of Design. Close with figures like James “Nick” Rowe, Al combined real combat experience with elite design skill — the reason the Warrior remains one of the most respected fighting knives ever made. He was inducted into the Fighting Knives Magazine Hall of Fame in the 1980s and the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame in 2009.
These Warriors were discovered in Japan, sitting untouched in the original factory for over 30 years. They are not reissues or modern production, but original old stock from the era when Al worked with top Japanese craftsmen. After his death in 1992, production halted, leaving finished knives unreleased in storage.
They show honest age from long-term storage — scuffs, stains, and handling marks — and are not mint. The logo/chop was added years later after the original shop had closed.
The Warrior’s reputation is immediate: exceptional balance, purposeful design, and a feel modern production can’t replicate. These knives aren’t perfect — they’re historic.
