Overview

Stubbs “Thirsty” EDC Pry

Stubbs is a piece that I designed & made by popular demand.  Specific requests covered are a 4” prybar as TSA friendly as possible featuring the 3D machined body akin to The Side Piece.  Some additional features I implement d on Stubbs are elongating & integrating the lanyard hole into the pocket clip pocket recess.  This allows more freedom of movement for the lanyard cord and I LOVE the way it looks.  For the “Thirsty” version, the bottle opener on these is the first of its kind.  This caplifter is the only one on any piece I’ve made to solely be a fantastic bottle opener and not a dual purpose caplifter / 1/4” wrench.  However I purposely sized the skeletonizing slot under the clip to function as a great 1/4” wrench.

The name “Stubbs” serves dual intentions.  1. Refers to the prybars thick, short nature & 2. More importantly harkens back to my early manhood days, living in Austin TX 1997-2003 & Stubbs BBQ being my favorite music venue.  Taking over a small hardware store & lumber yard it is a perfect medium sized venue and being on the West side of I35 on 8th street, it is THE perfect location to pop over to 6th street after a show, hang out & people watch.

Initially I wanted to call it “The Vagabond” or something because it really is a stout, go anywhere piece.

My Prys are intended to be carried everywhere, constantly.  …it should definitely see its fair share of poking, scraping, opening things and touching things I don’t want to touch (like a trash can lid in a park).  I also find comfort in having it on me as a potential escape/evade tool as well as an adversarial fuck off persuasion tool.

About the Maker

Nice Guy Machine Co.

NGMCo. is owned and operated by me, Archie Ofenstein. I have been a gearhead and edc enthusiast my entire life. I spent my early adult years in Austin TX as a musician but quickly learned that the lifestyle was not for me. In 2003 I moved to Terlingua, TX to pursue work as an outdoor enthusiast. There I met an entire culture of guides in all facets of outdoor adventure. I quickly learned that guiding on the river would be my path. I spent the first several years mostly on the Rio Grande River in the Big Bend National Park & the Arkansas River in Chaffee County, CO. Moving forward, I decided to change it up and become a craftsman in the fall, winter & spring, saving what seemed like endless summers guiding on the Arkansas river & managing American Adventure Expeditions. Every day got better as they continue to do to this day. January 23, 2008 I started my YouTube channel became one of the first edc reviewers, mostly reviewing folding knives. As life has waxed and waned, the channel lulled and I kept on living. My edc gear enthusiasm has only grown and it finally came to the point where I had to be a maker. Not only that, but I need to buck the trend of outsourcing. All goods with the NGMCo. name will be designed and crafted by me in Colorado, USA. Cheers.
