Overview
The Gransfors Bruks Ray Mears Wilderness Axe is an exclusive collaboration between Ray Mears and the Swedish company Gransfors Bruks. After years of designing, testing and refining, Ray and the Woodlore team are extremely excited to unveil this unique signature model; in Ray's words, it's the 'Small Forest Axe Plus'.
While many Gransfors axes are forged en masse in large presses, the Wilderness Axe is produced in small quantities by Gransfors' experienced blacksmith, who work by hand with a traditional hammer press. Thanks to the use of this press from the 1940's, the production looks the same as it would have done back then.

The Ray Mears Leather Wilderness Axe Sheath has been developed specifically for use with the Gransfors Bruks Ray Mears Wilderness Axe.
This hard-wearing sheath slides onto the axe head from underneath and a heavy leather welt holds it in position safely. The flap fastens over the top with a neat brass Sam Browne stud holding the axe securely in its sheath.
With no strap to stretch or get tangled up, this design fits the axe easily and is compact enough to pop in your pocket when not in use.
Hand-made in-house by a craftswoman with over three decades of experience, the leather is vegetable tanned with the full, natural grain, and hand-dyed to the unique Woodlore colour. The edges are a burnished dark brown with a traditional crease line. Careful selection of materials and accuracy of construction negate the need for metal rivets; stitching is by hand using a rot-proof braided and waxed polyester thread. The Ray Mears

The Ray Mears Folding Buck Saw Case is, as the name suggests, a protective carrying case designed to house the classic Ray Mears Folding Buck Saw, with an additional sleeve to hold your axe. Produced in an extremely durable combination of canvas and leather, this case ensures that your tools are kept securely stowed for easy transportation.
This case is included as standard with each purchase of our Ray Mears Folding Buck Saw; however, early editions did not include the additional axe sleeve or leather shoulder guard, so we now offer this case on its own, either to update your original case, to be used as a spare, or to house other, similarly-sized tools.
The axe sleeve has been designed specifically to house either the Gransfors Ray Mears Wilderness Axe, or the classic Gransfors Small Forest Axe. However, it will of course accommodate other axes or tools of a similar size.
Made from an extremely sturdy, waterproof canvas with leather reinforcements, the Buck Saw Case comes fitted with a shoulder strap of 550 Nylon Para Cord. This strap features a leather shoulder guard for comfort, and allows you to wear the case across your back, leaving your hands free to carry your firewood back to camp.
