Overview
A "K98 ab bayonet" is a WWII German bayonet for the Mauser Kar 98k rifle. The code "ab" is the official wartime manufacturer code for Mundlos AG. These bayonets were officially designated the S84/98 III. They featured a 10-inch blade and were carried in a steel scabbard. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
History of the "ab" Code
During WWII, Germany used letter codes to mark weapons so enemies could not easily identify the factories making them. [1, 2]
- ab: Mundlos AG, based in Magdeburg, Germany.
- ab41, ab43, ab44: These codes identify the manufacturer followed by the year of production (e.g., 1941, 1943, 1944)
Marked AB/ 7184A
Comes with original scabbard. Has some oxidation, scratches and dings, otherwise good condition for its age.
