A Legend Reborn — The S.O.G. Bowie, Hattori Natures Edition
Few knives carry the weight of history that the S.O.G. Bowie does. Originally conceived during the Vietnam War era and carried by elite Special Operations Group operatives, the S.O.G. Bowie became a symbol of reliability, strength, and quiet authority. Last year, on the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, this iconic design captured the attention of collectors worldwide — and Master Hattori’s interpretation stands as one of the finest tributes to that legacy.
For the SAN-153, Master Hattori revisits this storied design through the lens of the Hattori Natures Edition — reimagining the handle with a combination of natural and refined materials that elevate the classic Bowie into something truly extraordinary.
SAN-153 Natures Edition — A Handle of Dark Harmony
The custom combination handle of the SAN-153 brings together four carefully chosen materials, each contributing its own voice to a composition of dark luxury:
Leather Washer Spacers — Warm, tactile, and timeless. The stacked leather washers provide a natural grip and a nod to the knife’s military heritage.
Brass Spacers — Rich gold tones that catch the light and punctuate the darkness with a flash of warmth and refinement.
Black Paper Micarta Spacers — Dense, smooth, and deeply black. The Micarta adds a modern precision that tightens the overall composition.
Ebony — Naturally dense and deeply grained, the Ebony brings the handle to its conclusion with quiet authority. Its dark, flowing grain harmonizes with the black Micarta, creating a seamless depth that is both bold and sophisticated.
Together, these four materials create a handle of striking dark elegance — where the gold of the Brass glows against the surrounding darkness, and the grain of the Ebony flows into the black of the Micarta in perfect, natural harmony. No two handles are identical. Each one is shaped by the unique character of its materials, and each hilt bears an individually engraved serial number, a mark of its singular identity.

About Hattori 傘 SAN Limited Edition
Grand Master Hattori became 80 years old. In Japan, a person’s 80th birthday is commemorated with a special celebration called 傘寿 / Sanju. To celebrate this milestone and his proud achievements as a Master craftsman, Hattori created the 傘 SAN Limited Edition — a series of strictly limited-production knives, each one a testament to a lifetime of dedication to the craft.
The SAN-153 features a 6¼-inch hollow-ground, semi-mirror polished AUS-8 Molybdenum Vanadium stainless steel Bowie-style blade, with a large false edge on the back of the clip point. The knife is fitted with a solid stainless steel Double Guard / Crossguard and Butt Cap (with lanyard hole), and comes with a brown leather sheath with a sharpening stone in the pocket. The blade bears the signature 傘 SAN etching, and each piece is presented in a Hattori Presentation Box.
Only 5 pieces exist in the world — each one a meeting of history, nature, and master craftsmanship.
