Overview

Hattori Natures Edition — In Harmony with Nature

Hattori has always believed that the soul of a great knife begins with the materials. From the steel of the blade to the layers of the handle, every element is chosen with intention, patience, and a deep respect for nature. The Hattori Natures Edition expresses this philosophy — a collection dedicated to the beauty, warmth, and quiet strength that only natural materials can provide.

A Legend Reborn — The S.O.G. Bowie, Hattori Natures Edition

Few knives carry the weight of history that the S.O.G. Bowie does. Originally conceived during the Vietnam War era and carried by elite Special Operations Group operatives, the S.O.G. Bowie became a symbol of reliability, strength, and quiet authority. Last year, on the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, this iconic design captured the attention of collectors worldwide — and Master Hattori’s interpretation stands as one of the finest tributes to that legacy.

SAN-155 — Only One Made. Only One Will Ever Exist.

Among all the knives in the Hattori  SAN Limited Edition collection, the SAN-155 occupies a category entirely its own. This is not one of five. This is not one of ten. This knife exists once, and once only — in the entire world. The hilt bears the engraving “Only One Made” — not as a marketing phrase, but as a statement of absolute fact.

The SAN-155 shares the same foundation as the SAN-154 — the same storied S.O.G. Bowie blade, the same Natures Edition philosophy, the same combination of Leather, Brass, and Black Paper Micarta. But what sets the SAN-155 apart is the Cocobolo itself.

The Cocobolo That Chose This Knife

Master Hattori has spent a lifetime handling the world’s finest natural materials. He knows, better than anyone, that truly exceptional Cocobolo — wood with a grain pattern so dramatic, so alive, so perfectly formed — is extraordinarily rare. Most pieces are beautiful. This one is singular.

The Cocobolo selected for the SAN-155 features dramatic swirling grain patterns on both sides of the handle — natural spirals formed over decades within the living wood, unique to this single piece of timber, and impossible to replicate. The deep reds, warm oranges, and rich browns flow in sweeping curves that draw the eye and hold it. It is the kind of grain that stops a craftsman mid-work and demands to become something worthy of it.

Master Hattori chose this piece above all others. That choice is the SAN-155.

A Composition of Singular Luxury

The handle brings together four materials in perfect balance:

Cocobolo Wood — The centerpiece. Swirling, dramatic, irreplaceable. Hand-selected by Master Hattori as the finest piece in his collection.

Leather Washer Spacers — Warm and tactile, providing a natural grip and a nod to the knife’s military heritage.

Brass Spacers — The gold of the Brass spacers glows warmly within the composition — echoing the rich tones of the Cocobolo and adding a refined luminosity.

Black Paper Micarta Spacers — A precise dark accent that frames the Cocobolo, allowing its extraordinary color and grain to radiate with full intensity.

The silver stainless steel hilt and buttcap complete the composition — cool and precise against the warmth of the wood, creating a contrast that is both striking and harmonious.

About Hattori 傘 SAN Limited Edition

Grand Master Hattori became 80 years old. In Japan, a person’s 80th birthday is commemorated with a special celebration called 傘寿 / Sanju. To celebrate this milestone and his proud achievements as a Master craftsman, Hattori created the 傘 SAN Limited Edition — a series of strictly limited-production knives, each one a testament to a lifetime of dedication to the craft.

The SAN-155 features a 6¼-inch hollow-ground, semi-mirror polished AUS-8 Molybdenum Vanadium stainless steel Bowie-style blade, with a large false edge on the back of the clip point. The knife is fitted with a solid stainless steel Double Guard / Crossguard and Butt Cap (with lanyard hole), and comes with a brown leather sheath with a sharpening stone in the pocket. The blade bears the signature 傘 SAN etching, and the knife is presented in a Hattori Presentation Box.

There is only one. There will only ever be one.
