Overview

This Tigershark from SOG Knives features a satin finish clip point blade with swedge. The handle is comprised of a rubberized grip over hidden tang construction. Lanyard hole in pommel. Includes leather sheath with belt loop. Sheath marks and corrosion on blade.

The SOG Tigershark (SK-5) was the 5th model that SOG produced. It is one of the first few iconic models that SOG rolled out - which means that it forms the basis of the SOG company history. Just imagine - 9 inches of shiny sharpened SK-5 carbon steel... almost like a mini-sword! This knife is especially hard to come by, and it pops up rarely for sale on the web. This model is the base for the current Tigershark models, like the Tigershark Elite. Many have commented that this SOG knife makes a great camp tool (especially for chopping) and makes very quick work of any wood, largely due to its nice hefty blade that has great weight balance and feel. People who bought this knife certainly did use it well, which explains why it is difficult to find a Mint In Box (MIB) piece.

The SK-5 Tigershark is also the iconic knife used in the new "SOG split bullet logo", of which the picture of it cutting the .45 pistol round can be found at the bottom of this page. It is one of the most sought after knives for SOG collectors today and continues to fetch high prices in sales. The Tigershark model continues to be a popular SOG knife as its largest model (by blade length) and it is still being produced by SOG in modern versons.

About the Maker

SOG Knives
SOG Knives

"Our story begins in Vietnam, where members of a highly classified US special ops unit - known as MACV-SOG - carried a unique combat knife into the jungle on covert missions. Years later, in 1986, that knife inspired a young designer, named Spencer Frazer, to found SOG Specialty Knives. His mission: to reproduce the original SOG Bowie knife and pay tribute to the special ops unit that created it. What began as a single commemorative model soon became a full line of innovative tools - field-proven by US Special Forces, even honored as the Navy SEAL knife of choice. Today, SOG knives are carried with confidence into the most demanding situations. Forged out of tradition, hardened in the field, honed for you."
