Overview
This is an unusual and interesting knife from A.C. Cornelison that stands out for its simple but inventive construction.
It features two black oxide-coated blades with nail nicks—one spear point and one tanto. The handle is made from a single piece of black oxide-finished steel, folded over so the spine functions as two independent slipjoint springs. The blades are stamped: “CHROMIUM-VANADIUM STEEL A.C. CORNELISON SCOTTSBORO ALA. U.S.A.”
It uses a single hand-peened pivot pin, and both blades have half stops that sit flush in all positions. The design is somewhat similar to a flush lock slipjoint, with the blade tangs meeting cleanly at the front of the frame. The handle also has a subtle swell at the butt, giving it a comfortable, secure grip.
The knife shows scuffs and signs of use and sharpening, but remains in good functional condition. Overall, it’s a crude but clever piece with a lot of character and interesting engineering choices.
