Earp, Rob

Rob Earp, the craftsman behind Rob Earp Custom Knives, is a knifemaker based in Springdale, Arkansas, whose passion for blades has evolved from a decade-long journey as a collector to a skilled artisan creating unique, eye-catching knives. Originally from North Carolina, Rob moved to Arkansas in 2007 and began collecting knives, drawn to their craftsmanship and utility. In 2024, his curiosity and admiration for the art of knifemaking sparked a desire to create his own, marking the beginning of a transformative year. With no prior experience, Rob dove into the craft with determination, quickly establishing himself as a rising talent in the knifemaking community, known for his vibrant designs and dedication to mastering diverse styles. Rob's growth as a knifemaker was profoundly shaped by his friendships and mentorships with Arkansas knifemaking legends Bob Dozier and Chris Taylor of Taylor Made Knives. These relationships, formed over the course of 2024, were instrumental in his development. Bob Dozier, a renowned figure in the industry, not only shared invaluable techniques but also assisted Rob in setting up his workshop, guiding him in selecting and purchasing machinery to build a professional grade shop. Bob introduced Rob to Jim Dunlap, another esteemed knifemaker, further enriching Rob's learning, allowing him to hone his skills by crafting a knife in Jim's shop. These mentors taught Rob the importance of precision, from blade grinding to handle finishing, and instilled in him a commitment to quality that defines his work today. Inspired by the iconic Morseth Knives, which Bob Dozier crafted for years, Rob gravitates toward their timeless designs, particularly favoring smaller everyday carry knives that blend functionality with striking aesthetics. His love for the simplicity and elegance of slip joint knives also influences his creations, as seen in his vibrant designs featuring bright colors using materials like Micarta, Stag, Mammoth, and exotic woods.
