Layaway Information

Layaway Policies

We offer a layaway plan on select products so you may pay for your order over a period of 60 days. Products that are eligible for layaway will show "Layaway Available: Yes" on the product page.

Here's how it works:

The total amount of the order excluding shipping, tax, or fees is divided into three (3) equal payments. The first payment is due with the order, the second payment is due 30 days later, and the final payment is due 60 days after the order.

There is a $15 non-refundable fee for layaway orders. This fee is added to the first payment along with the shipping and any tax. The first payment is made when the order is placed.

Example: Your order total is $300 plus $12.75 shipping and handling. If you select the layaway option, your payments would be:

  • $127.75 (1/3 of purchase = $100 + $15 layaway fee + $12.75 shipping)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)

If your initial payment is made by credit card, we will automatically process the 2nd and 3rd payments at the appropriate time using the same credit card information. You will be reminded via email that a payment will be charged. If you need to change this for any reason, please contact us.

For payments made other than credit card, payment must be received within seven (7) days of the due date or the order is subject to cancellation. You will receive a reminder via email that a payment is due.

If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped, you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period. There is no penalty for prepayment.

Additional products may be added to a layaway order without penalty. A new payment schedule will be calculated based on when additional products are added.

If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped, you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period. There is no penalty for early payment.

Cancellations of layaway orders are subject to a restocking/processing fee of 10% of the order total (not including tax and shipping costs). This restocking fee is in addition to the $15 non-refundable layaway fee.

About the Maker

Kious, Joe

Veteran knifemaker Joe Kious, popularizer of the “Pocket Locket” style of high-end art folder and long-time Knifemakers’ Guild member, passed away in 2014. A resident of Kerrville, Texas, Kious was a full-time knifemaker who sold his first knife in 1969. He specialized in investment-quality interframes and bolstered folders, some bringing up to as high as $10,000 or more. However, it is his Pocket-Locket models for which he may be best remembered. Featuring elaborate engraving, the folding knives include a small compartment in the handle with a sliding panel that slides back to reveal another engraved scene inside. “Joe was a staunch supporter of the Knifemakers’ Guild and believed in handmade knives,” said knifemaker and fellow Guild member Edmund Davidson. “Joe had a wonderful personality, was very easy to speak with and would tell you anything you wanted to know. He held nothing back and had no secrets. His knives reflected a great deal of thought, craftsmanship and artistry. He was a true master and genuine person. He will be sorely missed. When we lose a man of his caliber, we are all diminished.”

Warenski, Julie

My career in custom knifemaking began in 1986 when I met Buster Warenski who taught me the art of engraving. I was taking an engraving class, which he taught, and later that year we were married. Within one year I was engraving every knife we made and also engraved for many other knifemakers and customers all over the world. Over the years I worked in many areas of knifemaking helping with knife designs and also making many parts of our knives, as well as doing all the embellishment on them. We had a great marriage and awesome relationship until he was so unexpectedly taken away forever. He used to joke that he was going to teach me how to grind the blades so he could just retire, but I quickly let him know that there was no way this was going to happen. I often wish now that he had taught me his techniques to grind the knife blades. After Buster’s passing, I had a strong desire to make knives and continue to make the great art knives that I had worked on and had a unique partnership with for the past 20 years. A past student of Buster’s, Curt Erickson, had offered to help teach me to grind the way Buster had taught him. He was the only person Buster had really tutored in knifemaking and I graciously accepted his offer. After working with Curt and with his help I won the Buster Warenski award for the best Art Knife at the New York knife show in February 2006. We were married in 2006, and now work together in a new and exciting partnership in knifemaking. There will be many fabulous knives in our future together as we are dedicated to making some of the best art knives possible.
