Overview

Spyderco’s Sprint Run Caly 3 is made with Aogami Super Blue steel. Aogami Super Blue is produced exclusively by Hitachi Metals at their plant in Japan. They use high quality iron-sand found only there to create different grades of white and blue steels. The steel itself isn’t blue or white in color; instead the designation refers to the color of paper the raw steel comes wrapped in when delivered to Hitachi.

In Japan it's common practice for steels to be named and referred to based on the color of the packaging the raw steel is delivered in. Super Blue is the highest grade of blue steel and contains up to 1.5% carbon for wear resistance and chrome to elevate hardness and improve edge holding and corrosion resistance.

The Caly 3, has converted legions of knife buyers to the hard-use benefits of flat-ground leaf-shaped blades. This Caly 3 comes with a Plain Edge that is ground flat for precise cutting. The handle’s shape settles the index finger on the underside and thumb naturally above on the jimped (slip resistant) spine so the knife feels like part of the hand with controlled grip and no forward or backward slide while cutting. Ambidextrous deep-pocket-carry tip-up wire clip. Mid-positioned backlock.

Comes with Spyderco zippered case. Excellent condition.

About the Maker

Spyderco
Spyderco

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling their first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™, primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carry at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife. Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, our innovation has also earned us an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks, and industry awards. More importantly, it has allowed us to earn the trust and loyalty of countless thousands of dedicated knife users around the world—an audience to whom we are extremely grateful.
