"Skorpion S-1 knife by Paragon. Another interesting hollow handle survival knife of the 1980s.
This knife was a limited edition and although it didn't have a very refined aesthetic finish, it was made of good materials and had tools like saw and hammer in the buttcap that really works.
In 1985, Paragon Sales & Services Inc. took 800 units of the Swedish M-96 bayonets and modified this to become that Skorpion survival knife, marked "EJAB Crown & Anchor".
The original Swedish M-96 bayonet is also named M/1896 bayonet and it was a Swedish knife bayonet for the M/1896 Mauser rifle. From the little research I've done, the original M-96 bayonet was produced in 65 years (from 1899 to 1964) and it's maybe the most common bayonet in Scandinavia.
Comparing photos to the original M-96 bayonet, I believe that Skorpion survival knife, beside a totally different sheath, had the handle and guard exchanged to different handle and guard pieces, because the external thickness of the hollow tube that forms the handle of the Skorpion knife does not appear to be the same as the external thickness of the hollow tube that forms the handle of the bayonet, the knife guard, although it has similar rounded lines to the bayonet guard, it don't have any remains of the fitting ring that was on top of the bayonet guard. Paragon also added a saw to the back of the blade.
These Skorpion knives was made of phosphated carbon steel with a of 55 to 58 Rockwell C hardness , the handle was made of steel tube painted with epoxy paint with a tightly wrapped nylon cord, the steel on the handle was knurled with a non-slip surface underneath the cord and the buttcap was made of a aluminum piece externally reinforced with a robust tempered steel piece on it, to be strong and not too heavy for use as a hammer.
The blade was 8.5 inches long and the overall length was 13.5 inches and it came with a robust leather sheath."
