Overview
This WWI Alex Coppel Solingen German Bayonet features a spear point blade with fullers, .263" blade stock and 1.276" blade depth, hidden tang construction. The handle has a steel guard and frame with wood scales. Has hallmarks and "W16" on the spine of the blade. Has hallmarks near the butt and on the guard. Has some scratches, pitting and some oxidation, otherwise good condition for its age. This is the bayonet for the 8mm Mauser Gewehr 98. These are known as the older model. This first pattern hacked a flashguard and has a partial muzzle ring. The M1898/05 superseded the M1898 whose long slender blade was prone to breakage.
