About the Maker

Jarrett, Wayne
Jarrett, Wayne

From a 2011 A.G. Russell Knife Maker Spotlight : Colorado knifemaker, Wayne Jarrett, found his love for knives when he received his first pocketknife from his dad for his 7th birthday and a stacked leather hunting knife from his brother-in-law one Christmas several years later. That was all it took and Wayne has been hooked ever since. Wayne made his first knife in 1995. He was a part-time maker until early 2009 when he decided to start making knives full-time. Wayne utilizes the stock removal method and uses only premium steels and handle material in every knife he makes. He does all of the work himself, including heat treating and tempering, nothing is ever farmed out. He makes them one at a time by hand in his Colorado shop. All of his sheaths are also handmade by Wayne, custom crafted to fit each knife. Wayne primarily makes full tang hunting and skinning knives for sportsmen, guides and outfitters. From time to time, he also makes larger bowie, camp and tactical knives as well. Wayne has customers from all over the world who use his knives for everything from cutting the bacon at the campsite to skinning out that big game catch in Africa. Wayne also has an apprenticeship program in which he is teaching young high school students the art of making hand made knives. His current student is CJ, an 18 year old young man who has a passion for knives and drive to know more about them. Wayne is also a member of the Professional Knifemakers Association. You can view more of Wayne’s knives by visiting his website at www.jarrettknives.com. Some of CJ’s knives can also be viewed on Wayne’s website if you would like to see how good of a teacher Wayne is. If you can’t find Wayne in his shop hard at work making knives, you might find him out on Gold Medal streams in Colorado enjoying his other love…fly fishing.
