Overview
This Samurai Tachi is circa 1670s. The Otsuka/handle is covered in silver, and in shakudo (an alloy that includes up to 10% gold to produce a handsome dark blue color). Theis type of tsuka is associated with Court Tachi. Blade nagasa (length of cutting edge) 24-3/16". Mumei/unsigned. The Koshirae (mounts) are in excellent condition. The lacquer on the saya has some chips, the saya drag fitting is missing. These are all normal for a battle-carried sword that was later brought back by an American GI in his duffle bag. The blade is in original Japanese polish, with some small chips in the edge. A polish will fix all if the buyer decides to have that done. The hamon and boshi (temper) are healthy and complete.
