Vintage Smith & Wesson Blackie Collins designed; Fisherman Filet Knife, Model 6040
In 1972 the President of Smith & Wesson met with knife designed Blackie Collins to design a series of fixed blade knives. In 1973 S&W began to produce these knives in house.
In total this series of knives referred to as the Survival Series consisted of 7 knives. To complete their line of knives, the factory offered the fisherman two fixed blade knives. These were called the Fisherman Fillet, designed with a 6 ½” blade and a general-purpose knife with a stiffer 5.5” blade simply called the Fisherman knife. These seven styles rounded out the Smith & Wesson’s complete knife line.
“Durable Brazilian Rosewood Handle, full tang and 6 ½” blade made for long service to fisherman. Relatively stiff blade point is ideal for flat, deep cuts. Weight 5 ½ oz.” Knife has a fairly rigid blade good slicing and fileting fish but also all around use.
Only 4500 of the models 6040 & 6050 were produced.
