Overview
Wood Jewel
Wood Jewel knives are handcrafted in Kolari, a small town in Finnish Lapland located north of the Arctic Circle. Designed by Kauko Raatiniemi, these knives draw on centuries-old Sami traditions, both in form and function.
Handles are built from carefully selected curly birch and sections of reindeer antler, chosen for both durability and beauty. The grain selection is exceptional, adding a unique character to every piece. The polished fittings complement the natural materials, while the deep pouch-style sheaths—crafted in the Sami tradition—hang from twisted leather thongs for secure and traditional carry.
Most blades are forged from .8% high carbon steel, hardened to about 59 HRC for excellent edge retention and easy sharpening. The design, materials, and craftsmanship come together to create a tool that is as functional in the wilderness as it is beautiful in the hand.
The Wood Jewel "Leuku-Puukko Combination" has one of each for a variety of tasks. The Leuku handle is proportioned for larger hands. The Puukko handle fits my average hand quite well for the more precise tasks of the puukko.
