Walter Brend no longer makes knives using 5/16" blade stock, and the sheath uses a Lexan liner instead of Kydex...also no longer used. This is a rare piece.

From the Brend website: "The Model Two has always been Walter’s most popular knife. When customers make that final decision what knife they would like to order, nine times out of 10 it is the Model Two. The above photo is an early vintage Brend Model Two. In 1981 when Walter started making knives, the Model Two was one of the first designs out of his shop. The design  came from his early years of hunting in the swamps of Florida, to 15 years of cutting meat. Walter new what he wanted in a custom knife, and that is reflected in his knives. Several knife  companies had  collaborations with Walter.  It was always the model two design, they tried to replicate, even in a pocket knife. When you see this blade and handle style you know it is a Brend Design. Brend designs,(Model 2, Model 5, Tanto, and Tommy Hawk) has influence many other makers and companies."

The knife in this picture is also shown on brendknives.com, Archives, August 2009.

About the Maker

Brend, Walter

Walter Brend is a living legend in the knife industry. He's been grinding knives for over forty years and has gained a reputation for having some of the most intricate and most beautiful custom grind lines around. He specializes in tactical folders and fixed blades that are just the right combination of size, style, and of course functionality. After living in several states, Walter and his wife moved to a rural McMinn County Tennessee home and soon began turning out new styles for collectors in an expanded work shop. The shop is filled with different sized belt grinders and unique equipment needed to cut and finish his one-of-a kind creations. Several machines were designed by him and built by a specialty company. Along with constantly developing new and unique knife design styles, Walter also takes special orders from collectors who have their own ideas. Buyers in other countries often seek special creations, asking for both hunting and collectible knives. Walter said his most expensive weapon created was a sword that sold for $30,000 to a collector in China.
