Overview

Jake Hoback is one of our favorite custom knifemakers here at the KnifeCenter, and the Kwaiback is his signature design. Mike at Custom Knife Factory has been eyeing Jake's work for years, hoping to someday have a collaboration piece between the two and we're happy to say that day has finally come. Mike and Jake pulled out all the stops on this CKF/Hoback Kwaiback Collaboration. It has all of the exact same features as Jake's custom shop work with the action, stylish material combination, and build quality you've come to expect from Custom Knife Factory. It isn't a dumbed down version using inferior materials or hardware. This knife will rival custom level pieces for fit, finish, materials, and quality. The final product is this amazing, highly collectible knife with the same feel as a custom at a great price. Apart from the pivot on the presentation side, you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between this and a true Kwaiback, even after you have it in your hands...it's that excellent. The attention to detail in regards to the grind, jimping execution, and interior milling, as well as minute features like the pocket clip and scripture mark, is absolutely spot on. The only differences are that Mike's chosen not to use the HRD Hoback Roller Detent and gone with his own two-row ceramic bearing system and we must say the action might just be improved. If you're a fan of CKF or Jake's, you've got to try out the collaboration Kwaiback as comparing it side by side with an MK4 mid-tech model, it just as nice and even superior in more ways than one. Hoback, Jake
Hoback, Jake

Jake Hoback had a variety of jobs and experiences before turning to full-time knife making and becoming a prominent figure in the industry. He studied and worked as a fish and wildlife scientific technician, was a machinist at a turbine engine company, and fabricated rock-crawling 4x4s. Jake started creating knives in 1990 in his back yard, pounding them out on a huge chunk of steel with a framing hammer and fence post nails. By 2003, Jake had sold his very first knife, and in 2009 started making knives full-time from his workshop in Northern Idaho. Jake has learned many techniques and skills from other knife makers throughout the years, but his initial work was completely self-taught. Jake’s knives are known for many innovative features, including the Hoback Roller Detent (HRD), internal lightening pockets, hardened stainless lock inserts, hardened bearing races, and smooth blade movement with no blade play. Jakes specializes in folding and fixed blade knives; but he especially enjoys the thought, design, and engineering that goes into folders.
