Antique 1884 Novelty Mfg Co Captain Isaac Winter Heysinger Gravity OTF Knife This Is One The Oldest & Rarest Gravity Knife You Will Ever See. A True Part Of US History. After Retirement Captain Isaac Winter Heysinger of Pennsylvania's 19th Cavalry developed a gravity knife. Nov 11 th. 1884 I.W. Heysinger was approved and issued a Patent on the design Blade is Tang Stamped" NOVELTY NOV 11,84" The original Heysinger models were larger from the 1880's then in the 1900's a smaller model was produced. Not to be Confused with the (Novelty-Cutlery-Co) from Canton, Ohio that made Clear Handle Ad Knives. Some people will suggest it is stamped this way because it was produced by this company but this is untrue. You might want to save a picture of it, as the only pictures any one has ever seen of this knife is on the drawings shown on the patent. The knife has a brass frame and black wood handles handles. The knife was made so that the blades could be easily changed. The patent lists five different styles of blades. I.W. Heysinger was a genius with this model for sure. Pat No. 307,767 Nov 11 th. 1884 Captain I.W. Heysinger was a Civil War Captain in The 19th Cavalry of Pennsylvania. Captain I.W. Heysinger was in the Antietam and the Maryland and Virginia campaigns of 1862. Has some scratches, otherwise good condition for its age.
