Overview
This Model 3-6 by Randall Made Knives features a satin finished blade with a false top edge, .161" blade stock and .940" blade depth, hidden tang construction. The handle has a brass guard, stacked leather grip with red/white/blue spacers, duralumin butt. Comes with a brown leather HH Heiser sheath with "5 1/2" on the back. Mid 40s era. Has a few light scratches, otherwise excellent condition for its age.
Bernard Levine wrote about this knife briefly in Knife World Magazine's "WHUT IZZIT" column. Comes with a photocopy of the article. This is what he said:
Now here is a hunting knife that really was made in the 1940s, the mid 1940s in fact. It looks new, thanks to its splendid condition, but it is not. Its owner lives in California, and asked me not to use his name. If i still lived in California, i would not use my name either.
The knife is a Randall, but it is not a version I had ever seen before. It is a Model 3, but scaled down to compact size, with a 5-1/2 inch blade. It has the stacked leather handle. It has the brass single guard backed by vulcanized ruber spacers of red/white/blue/white/red sequence, with blue being the thickest, white the thinnest. It has the aluminum alloy pommel with spacers red/white/blue, and all about the same thickness.
