Overview

This Sparrowhawk Scale Release D/A Auto from William Tuch features a blued Devin Thomas Raindrop Damascus (01 and Nickel) blade with a single anodized titanium thumbstud. The handle has matching Damascus scales, anodized titanium liners with jeweled interiors, matching Damascus backspacer, has fileworked screws. Nice detent, lockup and blade seating, strong action. Comes with a zippered case and COA. Has a few light scratches and a couple small oxidation spots, otherwise excellent condition.

This knife is set up a little weird. The thumbstud is for right handed opening, but the liner is set up as a left handed lock. Also, this is a scale release auto, the front scale does not move. You still kind of attempt to open it as if the front scale moves and your fingers will push down on the back of the back scale, firing the knife. It will all make sense when you have it in hand.

NOTE: The COA for this knife has a note that reads:  "This is a knife i made while knife maker Tim Herman was visiting. It is my first fluted knife. This is a technique I learned from him. This marks the beginning of a new direction for me."

About the Maker

Tuch Knives

I made my first knife in the fall of 2005. With a background in the metals supply and fabrication industry, I was very familiar with metals manufacturing and the machinery used. This along with some great guidance from Butch Vallotton was instrumental in my ability to learn this trade so rapidly. I realized quickly that I enjoyed the design aspect of the trade most of all. I had so many ideas, but my ideas were beyond my abilities. I started experimenting with carving and then was fortunate enough to meet an incredible artisan, Tim Herman. Tim and I spent several weeks together. In that time he filled me in on the basics of carving and many other aspects of knife making. Tim has truly been instrumental in my development. I now use very few machines. The bulk of my work is done with files, sandpaper and stones. These methods are very time consuming, but I am getting closer to achieving my ultimate goal of being able to create the designs that I see in my mind.
