Overview

The Knight Dagger is the result of an epic and laborious collaboration between the Winkler Knives team and Mastersmith Jason Knight. The Knight Dagger draws inspiration from the Fairbairn–Sykes fighting knife made famous throughout World War II. This proven knife design was carried by British Commandos, Airborne Forces, SAS, U.S. Marine Raiders, U.S. Army Rangers, and many more elite military units around the world as their primary fighting knife. Jason's maker's mark is on the left side of the blade. The Winkler Knives mark is on the right side. The blade is formed from high performing 80CrV2 carbon steel with a non-glare Caswell finish. The dagger grind tapers into an aggressive point. The handle is contoured from Micarta and features a shrouded tang built from black and white G10. This prevents the need to clean the handle after the knife is used and reduces weight while ensuring strength and durability. A lanyard hole allows for the easy addition of paracord for extra retention in hand. The versatile Kydex sheath can be worn vertically or horizontally for right- or left-hand draw with simple adjustments. Made in the USA. Excellent condition.

Winkler Knives

Daniel Winkler began making knives in 1975 and became a fulltime bladesmith in 1988. He earned accreditation as a Master Bladesmith from the American Bladesmith Society in 1993. Winkler’s focus on Early American weaponry led to his making knives and axes for the motion picture "Last Of The Mohicans".. Winkler Knives is a limited production company that custom manufactures a diverse line of high performance edged tools. It was established in response to requests from within the SOF Community for specialized breaching tools and has become widely acclaimed for its no frills approach to tactical and rescue operations. Winkler Knives’ products boast attributes such as tapered or skeletonized tangs, no-glare finishes and multi-option carry systems. Each tool is made from specialty steel best suited to the intended use of the equipment. Winkler Knives’ operation is in Boone, North Carolina. Daniel and his longtime partner/wife Sheath Maker Karen Shook operate Winkler Knives with the same attention to detail and standards of excellence that brought them acclaim in the custom knife industry.

Knight, Jason

Jason’s early knives were created through the stock removal process. In 2001 he attended the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington, Arkansas. Jason won Best New Maker at Blade Show West that same year. His work quickly became sought after because of his recognizable style. According to Jason, some of the most valuable input he ever received was from his friends George Herron and Daniel Winkler, both of whom encouraged him to always remain true to his own creative niche. In 2007 he received his ABS Mastersmith rating and was awarded the B.R. Hughes Award for the best knife by a Mastersmith candidate. He continues to receive awards for his extraordinary skill. Knight is well known among custom makers and collectors not only as an innovator, but also for his mastery of metallurgy and blade geometry.
