Dunaway-Knight, Daniel
My passion for knives started when I was kid. My dad went to a knife making class at the local VoTech; he built a 2x72 grinder and we were off to the races. After joining the Marine Corps, I realized I wanted to make knives for a living. While stationed in Hawaii I was fortunate to have the opportunity to apprentice under Ken Onion. Ken taught me to make knives and about fit and finish and all of the important details on how to design knives, specifically folding knives. I will be forever grateful for what I learned in his shop. When I got out of the Marine Corps I moved back to Oklahoma and have been splitting my time between my shop and Tom Krein’s shop where I program and run his CNC machine. I find inspiration from nature, automotive design, stories, art, and whatever I’m interested in at the time. I use a mixture of machines and hand finishes that I have picked up along the way. I design and make tools that fit into the needs of my daily life. I hope that some of them fit into yours as well.
