Berardo, Eduardo

Eduardo Berardo a Brazilian knifemaker, met the great cutler Luciano Dornelles during a vacation trip to the Serra Gaúcha, in the city of Nova Petrópolis, Brazil in December 2004. Luciano, seeing the interest of the visitor, was predisposed to, as far as possible, guide his apprenticeship, who lived 1400 kilometers from him. In January 2005 Berardo began the construction of his gas forge. His first anvil was a piece of train track, stuck precariously over a wooden block. He completed his first knife in January. Dornelles patiently guided Berardo on the telephone, who continued persistently in his experiments, managing to produce his first knives. In April 2005 he returned to his Master's workshop and spent 2 weeks just watching him work. Back in Catanduva, he manually built his first sander, restarting the production of his knives, now with much more technical requirements. At the end of the same year of 2005, in his first participation in cutlery events, Berardo conquered, with his 16th made knife, the Prize of Best Beginner Cutlery at the São Paulo Knife Show. In February 2006 he sold his first knife to the demanding North American market. In March 2006 he joined the American Bladesmith Society. In July of the same year, by deliberation of Dornelles, he returned to Nova Petrópolis to begin his apprenticeship in the making of steel. Between 2006 and 2008, he served as the 1st Secretary of the Brazilian Sharpener Society. In 2007 he won the Best Damascus Steel Awards and Best Integral Knife at the Nova Petrópolis Cutlery Fair and Best Damascus Steel at the São Paulo Knife Show. In the years 2008 and 2009 he gave technical lectures at the Nova Petrópolis Cutlery Fair and at the São Paulo Knife Show. In 2008 she was awarded the Best Field Knife and Best Integral Knife Awards at the Nova Petrópolis Cutlery Fair. In 2009 she was awarded the Prizes for Best Field Knife, Best Hunting Knife and Best Gaucho Knife at the Nova Petrópolis Cutlery Fair. Between the years of 2009 and 2015 he held the position of Technical Director of the Brazilian Sharpener Society. In September 2009 he held an Advanced Cutlery Course level II with Master Cutler Rodrigo Sfreddo. In November 2009 he underwent a Master Cutting Graduation Test by the Italian Cutlery Association in Milan and was approved. In 2011 he gave lectures on High Performance knives to the Commando and Special Operations Troops of the Military Police of the State of São Paulo. In the year of 2012 received the Prizes of Best Hunting Knife, Best Art Knife and Best Dagger in the 1st International Cutlery Show in São Paulo. In November of 2012 he taught the Forged Tools Confectioning Course in a situation of War of Resistance to the Instruction Officers of the Warfare Training Center in the Jungle of the Brazilian Army in Manaus / AM. In 2013, during the contest of Best Knives of the II International Cutlery Show in São Paulo, he was awarded the Prizes for Best Rustic Knife, Best Kitchen Knife and Best Field Knife. In June of 2016 he underwent the Journeyman Smith Graduation Test by the American Bladesmith Society in Atlanta, USA, being approved.
