Layaway Information

Layaway Policies

We offer a layaway plan on select products so you may pay for your order over a period of 60 days. Products that are eligible for layaway will show "Layaway Available: Yes" on the product page.

Here's how it works:

The total amount of the order excluding shipping, tax, or fees is divided into three (3) equal payments. The first payment is due with the order, the second payment is due 30 days later, and the final payment is due 60 days after the order.

There is a $15 non-refundable fee for layaway orders. This fee is added to the first payment along with the shipping and any tax. The first payment is made when the order is placed.

Example: Your order total is $300 plus $12.75 shipping and handling. If you select the layaway option, your payments would be:

  • $127.75 (1/3 of purchase = $100 + $15 layaway fee + $12.75 shipping)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)

If your initial payment is made by credit card, we will automatically process the 2nd and 3rd payments at the appropriate time using the same credit card information. You will be reminded via email that a payment will be charged. If you need to change this for any reason, please contact us.

For payments made other than credit card, payment must be received within seven (7) days of the due date or the order is subject to cancellation. You will receive a reminder via email that a payment is due.

If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped, you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period. There is no penalty for prepayment.

Additional products may be added to a layaway order without penalty. A new payment schedule will be calculated based on when additional products are added.

If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped, you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period. There is no penalty for early payment.

Cancellations of layaway orders are subject to a restocking/processing fee of 10% of the order total (not including tax and shipping costs). This restocking fee is in addition to the $15 non-refundable layaway fee.

Overview

This Albatros Flipper by Daniel Dunaway-Knight and Anders Hogstrom features an unswept Damasteel blade with flipper tab. The handle has an anodized and textured titanium frame with a copper inlaid bolster and unique pivot. The lockbar is inlaid, has a lockface insert, and a tip up titanium clip. Nice action, detent, and blade seating. Comes with a zippered case.  New from maker!

A project presentation of sorts below.

" In designing a folder that would find its own seat in a long line of fine knives available in the knife world today, I aimed for a versatile blade shape - a multipurpose if you will, where, for example ,it would make sense to bring outdoors as both your food-prep and utility blade, while also riding well in your pocket be it on the golf course, day out abt town or wherever you would feel the need and use of both a fine knife and a design statement. Its length and size offer options, while being a large folder in size, the design does not make it feel like a big knife in hand per se- sleek and slim rather.  In this design I felt there were qualities and a sort of siblingship to my friend Daniel's work ( one taught and brought into the game by Ken Onion)- it made sense to ask him if we should do a partner collab and see where we could take it jointly - he was all game.

So while I came up w the shape and made sure it would work and make sense in opened & closed positions, he added and created the mojo within the frame, so to speak. From the inner workings, the 3D shape of the handle, clip,  and its character of project-specific pivot, bolster shield etc. We have built on each other's ideas you can say.

The Albatros will be a small collections release. 10 of each is the idea w perhaps some even smaller high-end or very specific versions of even smaller numbers. All work is done in-house at our respective shops, mine or Daniel's.

At this time, we had prototype stage no.1:1 shown for the first time at Blade TX. This is prototype stage no.2:3 with these three knives. Next comes prototype stage no.3:5 that we consider the last before the release of the first full 10-piece series.  The base canvas offers plenty of directions and flavors to try and that's where we are now. All blades are as of now, planned to be Damasteel stainless w my free-hand grinding and not two exactly alike...my brain is mostly a once-type entity and not of a repetitive sort."

About the Maker

Dunaway-Knight, Daniel

My passion for knives started when I was kid. My dad went to a knife making class at the local VoTech; he built a 2x72 grinder and we were off to the races. After joining the Marine Corps, I realized I wanted to make knives for a living. While stationed in Hawaii I was fortunate to have the opportunity to apprentice under Ken Onion. Ken taught me to make knives and about fit and finish and all of the important details on how to design knives, specifically folding knives. I will be forever grateful for what I learned in his shop. When I got out of the Marine Corps I moved back to Oklahoma and have been splitting my time between my shop and Tom Krein’s shop where I program and run his CNC machine. I find inspiration from nature, automotive design, stories, art, and whatever I’m interested in at the time. I use a mixture of machines and hand finishes that I have picked up along the way. I design and make tools that fit into the needs of my daily life. I hope that some of them fit into yours as well.

Hogstrom, Anders

"I make mostly daggers, fighters and what I call “Kwaikens” but also swords and folding knives. I primarily use 1050 carbon spring steel and damascus of various compositions and on occasion, stainless steel for the blades. For the 1050 I employ a clay “tempering” technique that gives the blade a beautiful temper line (hamon) as well as a hard edge while maintaining a flexible core of the blade. These blades are rough ground and then finished off by hand with files and sandpaper before the final stage of etching the blade to bring out the hamon. When it comes to damascus, I tend to lean towards a simpler random or a twist pattern that goes with the overall simplistic scheme of my knives. These blades are worked and finished in a similar fashion as the carbon steel ones. I use stainless steel, mostly Damasteel stainless damascus, for folders, art knives ( for ex. Skull Cleaver and Druid Sickle) and some full-tang dress-knives, my Tuxer model, or upscale hunting/skinning-knives. For the handles and wooden sheaths I use rare exotic hardwoods, ancient ivories and bone material from all over the world. Even large pieces of natural amber has found its way onto a couple of my knives. A few wood favorites are Snakewood for its amazing striped grain pattern, Masur birch, Eucalyptus , and Redwood burl for its sometimes silky appearance."
